Each piece is then intricately hand-cut using a fine jeweler’s saw before being forged together to create a seamless pattern. The light is embraced by thick brass domes both atop and below the body.

We live in the Pacific Northwest, where the winters are famously gray and the rain seems to last for months. I had been desperately trying to turn our enclosed sunporch into a warm, cozy escape—a place to read and drink tea without feeling the gloom outside. I bought countless lamps, string lights, and candles, but nothing gave the room that “magic” feeling I was chasing. Then I stumbled onto World’s Handicraft and ordered this Moroccan Hanging Lantern Lamp.

When the box arrived, I literally unpacked it on my living room floor and just sat there admiring it before it was even hung up. The lantern design is so incredibly evocative and classic. It has a beautiful, substantial weight to it, and when you run your hands over the brass, you can feel the tiny, deliberate imperfections that tell you a real human being spent hours cutting and shaping those geometric panels. It carries a sense of history that you just can’t buy at a massive chain store.

We had an electrician hardwire it to the center of the porch ceiling on a dimmer, and the very first night we turned it on, I actually got goosebumps. The light escapes through the meticulously pierced metal and casts this intricate, glowing tapestry of shadows all over the walls, the ceiling, and even the floor. It completely erased the cold, rainy vibe of the room. Instead of a chilly porch, it felt like we had transported a warm, starlit evening from a bustling medina right into our home.

I was honestly a bit anxious about having a delicate, handcrafted lantern shipped across the world to Oregon, but it was wrapped with absolute care and arrived in pristine condition.
